I have been writing about thematic parallels and plot elements from The Odyssey that appear in Game of Thrones (see my previous posts) but I just learned that an actor from Game of Thrones has a new four-part travel documentary series that retraces the travels of Odysseus.
Richard E. Grant played the stage actor/writer Izembaro who himself played King Robert Baratheon and Tywin Lannister in a farcical play about events in Westeros in Season 6 of Game of Thrones. Most will remember these scenes as revolving around Arya who watched the play while in Braavos.
Richard E. Grant now has a show called the Very Modern Odyssey which is a four-part “travelogue” where he visits locations along the Mediterranean route of Odysseus’s voyage.
I haven’t seen Very Modern Odyssey yet, but I thought it was another somewhat interesting Game of Thrones / Odyssey connection.
